Sensitive Natural Site of Marais de Vieille Morte
Located in the Bourg d'Oisans plain, the Vieille Morte is a sensitive natural site that owes its name to a former backwater ("dead arm") of one of the many of the meanders of the Romanche River, when it still flowed along its natural bed.
A number of springs emerge from this site, which is made up of humid woodland and swamps. These feed a network of small channels and ponds that help maintain and develop plant and animal life characteristic of humid environments, such as yellow-bellied toads, alpine newts, water shrews and marsh warblers. The site is also historical as it contains a number of ruins dating back several centuries.
