Auris > Huez > Alpe d'Huez, en boucle - Hiking

Great hike from Auris through the shady and bucolic Sarenne valley before reaching Huez village. You will go back up to the Alpe d'Huez resort to return to Auris by the Sarenne road and the Col de Cluy.

A hike rich in history, heritage and scenery, with the Sarenne gorges linking Auris and Alpe d'Huez. A refreshingly intimate spot for fishing and picnicking near the ruins of the old mill.

ITINERARY
From Auris-en-Oisans, follow the path to Col de Maronne and head for Huez.
After the hamlet of Rosay, descend to the Roman bridge in the Sarenne gorges. Once over the Pont Romain, continue towards Huez.
In Huez, you can save time by taking the gondola lift or the free shuttle bus (ask about summer opening times) between Huez village and l'Alpe d'Huez.
From Alpe d'Huez, drive up to the Altiport and head for the Col de Sarenne (tarmac road, passing close to the Brandes archaeological site).
Reach the Pont du Gua, follow Auris then Col de Cluy.

THINGS TO SEE ALONG THE WAY
- The hamlet of Rosai, with its well-maintained stone houses typical of the region, and its 15th-century chapel of the Ste Trinité.
- The Pont Romain, on the route of the ancient "Roman road" that linked Grenoble to Italy via the Col du Lautaret and the Romanche valley.
- Near the bridge, you'll find ancient water mills.
- Along the way, you'll come across the Saint Ilpice chapel in the isolated hamlet of Cluy and the Saint-Géraud chapel.
- On the glaciers of La Meije and Les 2 Alpes.

THINGS TO KNOW:
- La Sarenne is "Europe's longest black run". In fact, the path you're taking is the end of this mythical ski run in winter. It starts from the Pic Blanc, at an altitude of 3,300 metres, with a 360-degree view of the surrounding mountains.

Dogs must be kept on a leash due to the presence of herding dogs at certain times of the year.
