From Les Daurens to Col d'Ornon
You can see the Col d'Ornon in the distance, between the summits of the Ecrins and the Massif du Taillefer. The climb begins in a pastoral setting in the valley and gradually changes into a mountain atmosphere.
After the Gîte de la Boussole, cross the bridge over the Malsanne and walk along the river. At the "Champ Meyannes" crossroad, turn left and walk for 100 m, then turn right onto a footpath. Follow the path as far as a small meadow and then turn right onto the smaller path. At its highest point, you cross a ford, then start to go down towards the village of La Chalp. In the village, you can take a quick return trip to the picnic area and the information panel on the geological site of the Chantelouve fault. There, turn right into the road alongside the stream and rejoin the D526. Cross the bridge over the Malsanne, then take the left-hand path along the river as far as the village of Les Bosses. Cross the wooden bridge, walk past the church and follow the street as far as the crossroads with the departmental road. Go down the road for about 200 m. Before the ford, turn right into the path towards Col d’Ornon. At the first crossroads, turn right. At altitude 1,239 m, rejoin the departmental road and take the path in the loop that goes towards the left. The route crosses the department road near a reservoir. Continue straight on, then turn left and follow the track. After the ford over the Merdaret, take the track leading downwards. Another two hairpin bends and the Col is in site.
