The discreet climb up to Alpe d'Huez by e-bike
Let's take an alternative route up to Alpe d'Huez via Allemond and the Lac du Verney, riding through the pretty village of Villard-Reculas with its balcony road. We then end up in Huez and can join the last switchbacks made famous by the Tour de France.
ROUTE
Leave Bourg d'Oisans on the D1091 towards Grenoble and turn right towards Allemond in Rochetaillée on the D526. Ride up to the Lac du Verney, then take the D44b to Villard-Reculas and carry on up to Huez and finally to Alpe d'Huez.
The official Tour de France stage finish line is on the Avenue du Rif Nel at the top of the resort. You can also carry on to Lac Besson (an additional 5.5km and 250m of height gain).
Ride back down the 21 switchbacks of the D211 to Bourg d'Oisans.
