The Bastille
The Fort de la Bastille can be accessed by the famous cable car, and is an unmissable tourist site, with its fortified areas, Musée des Troupes de Montagne, Contemporary Art Centre, and above-all, the breath-taking views.
From the summit, discover a breathtaking panorama, day and night. The panorama offers a view of the city and its landmarks, including the Grenoble cable car station, Place Victor Hugo and the Grenoble Museum. As you climb higher, you'll be able to admire the Belledonne massif, with the Chamrousse resort whose cross rises to an altitude of 2,250 m, the Taillefer massif, the Dévoluy massif in the Hautes-Alpes department, the Vercors massif and the Moucherotte at an altitude of 1,901 m.
A major tourist attraction in the region, this 19th-century military fort welcomes over 600,000 visitors every year from all over the world.
Accessible by cable car, vehicle, on foot or via ferrata, this fortified complex was built to defend Grenoble from a potential enemy who might have come from the Chartreuse.
A host of cultural and sporting activities are on offer: Musée des Troupes de Montagne, Centre d'Art Contemporain, Acrobastille, snack bar and panoramic restaurant Le Téléférique, plus a full program of events making it Grenoble's favorite playground.
