Le Bouchage Washhouses
Originally, these "gabouillons", as they were called in the region, were very basic reservoirs dug out near the streams.
The washhouses of Le Bouchage can be found at Sous les Vernes, Le Mollard and Cessenoud.
NB: The washerwomen of Le Bouchage could wash their clothes directly at La Braille, a washhouse with no stone where they each used their own washboard.
All of the washhouses were built in the same layout, with a roof to protect the washerwomen from the rain or sun. To allow daylight through, the working area was never protected by a wall.
