EARL Noël Martin
A winegrower since 1968, Noël Martin produces vins de pays IGP Isère Balmes Dauphinoises.
The quality and authenticity of his production have won him a number of awards, including the Concours Général Agricole de Paris and Effervescents du Monde.
In 1976, the development of the traditional method marked an important turning point in the reputation of Noël Martin wines. Work was carried out to improve the taste and quality of the wine in order to perpetuate the tradition of this method, previously known in Saint-Chef by the ROJON family (1858).
Come and taste these wines in the estate cellar. Don't miss the first Noël Martin cellar, now a museum, where you'll find wine-making machinery: sulphate machines, stills and corking machines from the last century.
The vineyard covers 11 hectares. A large proportion of the vineyard is over 30 years old, which gives it an undeniable quality. It produces an average of 65,000 to 75,000 bottles, with yields of 50 to 55 hectolitres per hectare depending on the year.
The vineyards are managed with respect for nature and the environment. The fertilisers applied to the soil are used for organic cultivation; in addition, prunings are used to add humus. As far as treatments are concerned, we speak of "lutte raisonnée", which means optimising treatments and therefore using as little as possible.
The grape varieties used for the white wines are Chardonnay and Viognier. For traditional methods, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are used. For red wines, Domaine Noël Martin offers Syrah and Pinot Noir. As for the rosé wine, you'll find the Pinot Noir grape variety.
The grape varieties are grown on clay-limestone soils for the traditional methods and the white vins de pays des Balmes Dauphinoises; those for the red wines are grown on stony, sandy and arid soils.
Syrah requires plenty of sunshine. So the plots of this grape variety are located on very steep south-facing slopes. This makes for difficult working conditions. Some of these wines are matured in oak barrels for one year.
Noël Martin wines are exhibited every year at the Saint-Chef and Salagnon wine fairs.
