Balade culture : Au fil de l'eau, Vizille et ses industries

Nature and culture discovery tour from Place du Château along the canals of the town and its past industries...
Signs will give you a better understanding of the rich history of the different places you'll pass through

A plain protected by mountains where water was plentiful, Vizille was an important gateway to Italy and the Hautes-Alpes. Everything contributed to creating a certain industrial wealth.
It began with small forge and paper hammers, hemp processing, rope factories and various mills. It intensified under the aegis of the Duc de Lesdiguières in the late 16th century. From the 19th to the mid-20th century, this development reached its zenith, with significant economic activity: foundries processing local ores, forges, mechanical engineering and screw-cutting, cardboard mills, paper mills, weaving mills and numerous small-scale entrepreneurs using hydraulic power.
