The Eau d'Olle Round Trip (Circuit n°4)
This lovely valley stretches away under the protective shadow of the Belledonne massif. The Col de la Croix de Fer and the Col du Glandon mountain passes lead to the Savoie region.
This almost 56 km circuit start in Bourg d'Oisans.
Drive over to Vaujany, which will be the end of your trip through the Eau d’Olle. This pretty village, which has kept its old-fashioned charm, is now a ski resort with all the latest equipment. On the way, stop off at ↘the Bergerie du Pays to admire their colourful 100% Mérinos wool collection and learn more about the
fascinating history of wool processing. Joints of lamb are also on sale.
Stop off in the village to visit the ↘Wildlife Museum (Maison de la Faune) and the Heritage Centre (Espace Patrimoine). The first is little gem for budding naturalists, with its interactive terminals and games that make you feel as if you’re really lying in wait. Admire the stuffed chamois, black grouse and marmots, together with a fine collection of butterflies from the region. ↘The Heritage Centre retraces 100 years of Vaujany history, told by the inhabitants.
The cable car from the village whisks you up closer to the sky, to an altitude of 2,800m. You can then go for a splash in the swimming pool, with its giant waterslide, at the ↘Leisure and Sports Centre. Enjoy the pure air and the roar of the Fare waterfall from the swimming pool terrace - a moment of happiness on a grand scale. And if you have any energy left, try your hand at skating at the magnificent, brand-new international-size ↘ice rink in Vaujany or else come and play a round of 10 pin ↘bowling.
You could then drive up to the ↘col du Sabot, the mountain pass that used to be the crossing point over to the Savoie region. This is now a farm track to be driven on with care and only in dry weather. To reach the pass and the belvedere, go through the hamlet of La Villette just outside Vaujany. You could also make your way to the village of Oz-en-Oisans, one of its hamlets or the resort which features ↘Kamikaze Parc, offering paintball and treetop adventures for all ages (2 years
upwards), including a zip line.
For those who prefer just lazing around, the terrace of ↘“Les Cristaux” swimming pool offers an outstanding view over the Belledonne Massif. The covered indoor
pool features a fun spa area, sauna and hammam.
