Brangues Church

  • Historic site and monument

The old church was demolished in July 1847 and a new one, built by the new mayor, Monsieur Michoud de la Tour, opened its doors the following week.
Without a doubt, the disinguishing feature of Brangues church is its curved Swabian roof.

The new church was consecrated on 9th November 1847. The front facade features statues of Joan of Arc and Saint Peter which were donated by Eugène Berthert, the great-nephew of Antoine Berthet, as sacrilegious reparation. One of the bells came from the previous church and the other was installed after the great floods of 1860. The church's patrons are Count Geoffroy-Xavier de Virieu, who owned the Château de Brangues, and the Countess of Quinsonnas.
