Porte de la Loi
Mentioned as far back as 1400, this gate was one of the main entrances to Crémieu. It used to have a moat in front of it where the River Vaux flowed but only the empty ditches still remain. The wall walk is decorated with protruding stone brackets known as corbels.
Monumental door in terms of its dimensions. Originally these corbels supported either a hourd - a wooden balcony - or a machicolation. As the protruding stones are very important, this second hypothesis is the one that has prevailed since its 2023 restoration.
It also has a stunner.
The four-sided roof is covered with slates, which are flat limestone stones typical of the traditional architecture of the Crémieu region.
Originally, in Crémieu, there were at least 11 town gates, 9 of which are preserved today, and at least 14 watchtowers still preserved.
