The Arboretum Robert Ruffier-Lanche
Located on the Grenoble Universités campus, this 2-hectare arboretum is one of the most beautiful in the Rhône-Alpes region. Visits are free all year round, but guided tours of 1h30 are available by appointment.
This arboretum bears the name of its creator, who was the head grower and botanist at the Jardin botanique alpin du Lautaret between 1950 and 1973. From 1966 onwards, this self-taught botanist planted over 300 trees and shrubs on the campus of the Université Joseph Fourier. After falling into disrepair in the 1990s, it was revitalized in 2000. Today, the arboretum offers the public an educational area for students, schoolchildren and the general public, as well as a planetary trail in the heart of the arboretum. Finally, greenhouses are currently under construction to enable year-round study of alpine plants and laboratory plants under controlled conditions (a collection of over 250 species of trees and shrubs from around the world).
