The Castle of Séchilienne

  • Historic site and monument

You can glimpse the ruins of the Château de Séchilienne from the start of the road leading up to the Col du Luitel. Visits are not allowed inside, but you can walk around it and it is a popular starting point for hikes.

To get to the château, park behind the Séchilienne town hall.

Walk up the road towards the Luitel Nature Reserve. After about 50 m, turn left (an almost faded sign indicates the château).
On the right as you reach the site, you'll see an old ruined building and a pretty stream cascading down. Pass to the left of the château, where a lovely pool with benches awaits you below.
A short footpath leads around the château, which dates back to the 15th century. Only the 2 main towers remain from this period, the rest having been rebuilt in the 19th century.
The château was burnt down by the Germans during WW2 and has been in a state of constant deterioration ever since. Nevertheless, it remains a beautiful building.
