The dog tower
Discover the heights of the village of Corenc and the tower of the Dogs perched on its promontory.
Tower of the dogs or domain of Arvilliers
The fortified house of Arvilliers called "Tour des Chiens" stands at the foot of the Saint-Eynard mountain in Chartreuse, at the altitude of 530 m. The site of the Tower of the Dogs dominates the city and the valley of Grésivaudan, offering a wide panorama on the chain of Belledonne, the Taillefer, the Grand-Serre, the Obiou and the cliffs of Vercors. Perched on a promontory, the Tower of the Dogs fulfilled the goals sought in the Middle Ages by the builders of a fortified house: protection, observation, and signaling. This watchtower allowed its occupants to communicate by optical signals. The domain was called "d'Arvilliers", from the name of the powerful family of Arvillars, allied to the Dauphins and the House of Savoy, who owned it at the end of the Middle Ages, and whose
whose crowned eagle appears today on the arms of the city of Corenc.
From the place Jules-Moch, go up the D 512 for a few meters, then turn left on a path to the sports field. Turn left onto the asphalt road leading to the Tour des Chiens, which is a private property.
Continue on a gravel path through a wood and pass Batonnière (649 m). Follow the direction of Le Gorget by a good path on the edge of the forest which joins a small road; take it for about 150 m on the left.
Do not miss a small path on the left, behind the guardrail, which cuts a bend. Take the small road back into Chantemerle. At the exit, in a bend and on the right, go down by a sunken path that leads to the hamlet of Gorget (380 m). Follow on the left the Maubec path in the direction of Corenc village.
In Maubec, go up to the left on a paved road that quickly becomes a path and runs along the vineyards. Pass a reservoir, then a street on the right to reach the Figette. Then go down
by the Chantourbe path, then left by the Cabassière path to find Corenc village.
