The Drac cornices
Discover the traces of the exploitation of one of the purest anthracite and, perched on the Corniche du Drac, overlook Lake Monteynard with its turquoise waters, sometimes facing the Vercors, sometimes facing the Écrins.
From the car park opposite the La Mure train station, join the roundabout to exit the town towards La Motte d'Aveillans via the D529. You pass in front of La Mure station, from where the anthracite went down towards Grenoble, then you cross the mining town of Villaret, where numerous mining infrastructures extended, of which only the massive coal store and the headframe remain. After the small Col de la Festinière, you will arrive at La Motte d’Aveillans, the oldest nerve center of mining. In La Motte, go to the “La Mine Image” museum, then follow the direction of La Motte-Saint-Martin, Marcieu and Mayres-Savel via the D116 road. At the junction for Savel beach, continue towards Saint-Arey, then Prunières, where you can admire the old headframe of the Rioux mine. The return to La Mure will take you past the theater and the Notre-Dame de l'Assomption church, before bringing you back to your starting point via the Montée du Breuil.
