The gorge waterfall

Nestling among the Austrian black pine trees, which were planted to reduce erosion, the gorge is always green. The water fall is several dozen metres high and has an impressive flow when the snow melts.

ACCESS
Between Le Touvet and Crolles. In the village of La Terrasse situated slightly above the route Nationale

ROUTE
It is possible to park in front of the Town Hall, from there follow the stream of La Terrasse 200 metres to the right, behind the retirement home. A path on the other side of the road goes past a group of appartment buildings and then over a small bridge. The path then goes gently up along La Terrasse stream as far as the Gorge bridge – 360 m in about 30 min

Easier alternative – On arriving in the village of La Terrasse, before reaching the centre of the village, near a fountain, take the road to Montabon hamlet. The path is situated 1 km higher on a hair pin bend near a sign post with blue and orange markings, just before arriving at the ruins of Montabon castle. A wide road on the left leads to the valley bottom. The stream can be reached in 10 min. The first waterfall is just above the small bridge ( the Gorge – 360m)

Altitude at starting point : 250m (or 360 m from Montabon)
Altitude at waterfall : about 400 m at the second waterfall
Time of walk : 30 min from La Terrasse village, or less than 15min by the road
Difference in altitude :150 m from La Terrasse and 50 m from the road.
Difficulty : very easy family walk as far as the Gorge bridge
The so-called « two waterfalls » walk, Gorge and Glésy from Montabon is fairly long but is not particularly difficult
Signposting : yellow standard PNR Chartreuse markings
