Val d'Amby Sensitive Natural Area

An iconic site in the Department of Isère, the Val d'Amby is a limestone fault in the heart of the Crémieu plateau.
This mosaic of natural habitats is home to many rare and protected animal and plant species such as the Bug Orchid.

Aware of the interest of this site, Optevoz village requested for it to be classified as a Sensitive Natural Area in 2010.

The Amby river flowing through the middle of the valley, the dry grasslands on the hillsides and the ruins of the old Gobilles mill created a remarkable landscape, long immortalised by artists from the Lyons school.

Thanks to the support of the Departmental Council of Isère, a management plan has been drawn up with all those involved locally, with a sustainable maintenance programme for this exceptional site.

An educational booklet will guide you throughout your discovery of the outstanding Val d'Amby, enjoy your visit.
