Villa "Brise des Neiges"
Built in 1901 as an "Italian-style" villa, the building is typical of the architecture of the period, with its rich exterior décor of cast cement factitious stone. Today, it is communally owned and houses a community center.
This bourgeois house was built in 1901 by local author Alphonse Vernet ("Histoire populaire et anecdotique de Grenoble" and "Histoire populaire du Dauphiné", published by Alexandre Gratier et Cie). It is of both architectural and historical interest.
Set along the Route de Chartreuse, this Italianate villa, typical of Grenoble architecture in the early 20th century, is adorned with factitious stone architectural elements made of molded natural prompt cement, probably prefabricated in series (modillions, corner chain with chamfered bossing softening into a palmette at cornice level, richly decorated window surrounds with figurative key). The north facade, on the road side, is the most prestigious; it is flanked by 2 square towers in an angle, with a first-floor balcony-terrace converted into a loggia. The beautifully crafted balustrade features a central panel with a man's head and floral motifs, framed by two side panels with nipples, separated by molded cement pilasters. The paintings are currently highlighted by a two-tone terracotta or pink cement finish. The walls are covered with sprayed rendering. At the rear of the building, an attractive single-flight horseshoe-shaped staircase leads to the gardens. The building retains its interior decor, notably in an octagonal boudoir where "Le Triomphe de Vénus" is painted on the ceiling and framed on the walls by four canvases most probably representing the four seasons.
The building has been awarded the "Patrimoine en Isère" label, recognizing the heritage quality of a building of departmental interest.
