Walk around Saint Antoine l’Abbaye
A hike with with a constant view of the village of Saint-Antoine and its abbey.
Upon leaving Saint-Antoine-l'Abbaye, which is classed as one of the most beautiful villages in France, you will be able to follow in the footsteps of the locals and explore the history of this medieval town and its prestigious abbey. Built between the 12th and 15th centuries, this abbey is one of Dauphiné's most impressive achievements.
From Chatte take the D27 towards Saint-Just, then continue on this road until you reach Saint-Antoine-l'Abbaye.
From the Porte de Lyon car park at the foot of the village, on the Roybon side. Head due north past the landmark and via the fortress (La Bâtie), until you reach the Saint-Jean-le-Fromental chapel. At the chapel, retrace your steps until you see the sign for La Bâtie, then bear left towards L'Enclos. After a gentle climb, you will have an exceptional view of the Vercors mountains and the Isère valley. At the sign for L'Enclos, bear right to go back to the village of Saint-Antoine: you will have a stunning view of the abbey.
