White House
The White House is considered the oldest fortified house in St Didier de la Tour. It is representative of the evolution of buildings from the late Middle Ages and the seventeenth century. Groups by appointment.
This set of buildings located on the edge of a slope bordered to the south-east by the Jaillet stream, on a gently sloping hillside, is composed of imposing communes - arranged in square around a courtyard partly paved with pebbles - and a noble dwelling, old fortified house. This one, formed of two wings in square and bordered by a tower of circular plan, is raised on two levels under a high roof in scale tiles and appears to result from a homogeneous construction (materials and implementation) ; it was inserted in a closed courtyard also encompassing the dovecote tower, isolated today. The regular and symmetrical openings (large mullioned crosses and flat crossbars) evoke a rigorous composition of the seventeenth century. Inside the building, several elements date back to the same period: staircase with right ramp and wall of chessboard, chimneys, paving.
The outbuildings are the result of several phases of construction, unified by a roof similar to that of the castle, but less high. It still houses an oven, the stone of a press and wheels used as support for the wooden pillars. Some parts (east end) could belong to the same period as the dwelling (same pebble apparatus, openings with edged edges of a chamfer). A wall, depicted on the cadastral plan of 1836, connected these commons to the castle.
The building has obtained the label "Heritage in Isère", rewarding the heritage quality of a building of departmental interest.
