6 markets to explore

We love markets for their authenticity and friendly atmosphere. But most importantly, they are the perfect places to stock up on local, seasonal produce directly from the producers.

Explore a selection of six typical markets in Isère, each offering a unique atmosphere where tradition and flavour come together in harmony. Colourful stalls, fresh local produce and a warm ambiance await!

Halles Sainte-Claire

#01

The most urban

In the heart of Grenoble, the Halles Sainte-Claire is the department’s only covered market, beautifully blending tradition and current trends. Housed in an understated, elegant building that stands on the site of a former convent, this historic monument invites visitors to explore its offerings.

With over 20 traders, the market showcases quality, primarily local produce, including delis, fishmongers, cheesemongers, excellent butchers and a food court.

La Mure

#02

The oldest

This centuries-old market dates back to 1309.

Its history is closely linked to that of the Halles, which were built to house it. As the market area became too small to accommodate the merchants, stalls and animals, it spilled over into the neighbouring squares. The atmosphere is friendly, with over 70 stalls. You’ll find fresh produce, regional specialities, clothes, fabrics, objects of all kinds and plenty more.

Every Saturday, Vienne town centre comes alive. Experience the second largest market in France, with over six kilometres of stalls and no fewer than 300 stands. You’ll find impeccably fresh fruit and vegetables, farmhouse goat’s cheeses, charcuterie, exotic produce and even bargains on clothes!
